Tricks of the Trade

How Your Clothing Affects Your Make up

How many times have you been at work or in a social environment and someone came up to you and said, "What a lovely blouse." Most people would rather hear, "You look great today!" This scenario usually happens because the outfit we chose to wear dominated our look. When choosing clothes they should compliment your look instead of overpowering it. Just as we choose make-up that complements our natural skin tone and hair color, we should do the same thing for our clothes. If you wear clothes that do not go with your natural skin tone, the conflicting colors of your clothes will be the first thing that noticed.
These are some suggestions you can take with you the next time you go shopping for a new outfit. I know there will be dresses or blouses that just call out to you. Remember what you want to get noticed, you or your dress?

Make-up and Your New Hair Color

You just visited your stylist and they gave you a great new color for your hair. You start to apply your make up and it just does not look right. I see this happen to a lot of people. The most important thing to keep in mind is that your hair colour will create a different shadow on your face if the colour is different from what you started with. Let me give you an example. You started out with ash blond hair and your hair stylist says, "You know you would look great as a redhead." O.K. that sounds good to me. Now you have this beautiful golden red hair that will cast a reddish tone onto your skin. The colours that we see in our hair come from light. Your hair colour absorbs a certain amount of light depending on the color it is. It also reflects light. This is the reason that red hair will make your skin appear to have more warm tone in it.

Now you have a little insight about how the colour of your hair can affect the colour of your skin, let's see how you need to adjust your make up. If you happen to be planning a change like this you might want to have someone take a picture of you without your make-up on with your starting hair colour, then another with your new hair colour. This way you can see the difference for yourself.
